On finally reaping the fruits of your labour
A Weaving Trust with participants at our two-day training held in April in Skärholmen, Stockholm.
A short reflection from Frida
If I were to describe the feeling at NCCO in August 2025, it would be the feeling of finally reaping the fruits of your labour.
Rev. Dr. Angus Ritchie, a fellow organiser and colleague at Citizens UK, once told me that ‘the thing about organising is, for the first year of doing it everyone will be wondering why you’re spending so much time talking - and by the second, third, fourth, fifth year, they’ll be asking you how the hell you’re getting so much done’.
And I think that perfectly encapsulates where we are at, here at NCCO. We are over a year into two of our pilot projects, and our hard-working organisers are coming back from summer holidays with an extra gear up - and getting just so much good work done. It’s truly incredible to see.
An update from our projects
Study Action Järva has launched a campaign group called ‘Rör inte min port!’ (Don’t touch my door!). The group, consisting of leaders and residents in Järva, is led by our organiser Alma Adane and focuses on enabling neighbours in high-rises to come together to make their common areas feel safe again.
The initiative was created in response to the wave of explosions set off by violent gangs putting bombs in stairwells of high-rises, targeting both gang members and civilians.
The group will be meeting over the next few weeks to finalise the details of ‘Rör inte min port!’, such as the content of a short training and a Weaving Trust for neighbours to organise, to build relationships and trust among each other.
The plan is to hold the first ‘Rör inte min port’ training and Weaving Trust during the autumn - and we already have a leader in Järva who has volunteered to host.
Upcoming events
Ålidhem Weaving Trust is hosting a two-day training for civil-society leaders on the 13-14th of October.
The two-day training gives leaders an introduction to the method of Community Organising, and equips them with practical tools to bring back to their organisations to build collective power with others and win change on issues they care about.
The training will be the first two-day training ever held entirely in Swedish, and will take place 9.00-16.00 on the 13th-14th of October in Umeå, Sweden.
NCCO will be there to co-deliver the training, and support our local organisers to host their own sessions for the first time.
